The DMS Alumni Mentoring Program

What is the DMS Mentoring Program?

As a DMS student, you are important to the DMS alumni family. Several years ago, the DMS Alumni Council, working with the DMS Alumni Relations Office, launched the Mentoring Program to support students during their medical education at Dartmouth and beyond. Alumni living and practicing across the country participate in this program. They are available to discuss topics ranging from surviving medical school, to selecting residency programs, to juggling family and career.

How does the program work?

If you are interested in having a mentor, the Mentoring Program will match you to the alumnus who can best address your individual needs. Once the match is made, the Mentoring Program will assist you in establishing the first contact with your mentor. Following that, you and your mentor may choose to communicate with each other by email, phone, or personal visits. The frequency of these contacts is up to you, although we recommend that you touch base with one another at least once a month. The duration of the match is depends on your needs. Historically, some mentoring relationships have been short-term while others last for years. Some students connect to one alumnus. Others, over the course of their education, connect with several.

How do I join?

To join the program or to find out more, contact the DMS Mentoring Program at dms.alumni.mentor@dartmouth.edu or call the DMS Alumni Relations Office at 653-0741.
