Student National Medical Association (SNMA)

What is the Student National Medical Association (SNMA)?

The Student National Medical Association (SNMA) is committed to supporting current and future underrepresented minority medical students, addressing the needs of underserved communities, and increasing the number of clinically excellent, culturally competent and socially conscious physicians.

Here, at Dartmouth Medical School, we have established our own SNMA Chapter within Region VII, which consists of other medical schools in New Hampshire, Vermont, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. Our goal is to serve the underserved communities of the Upper Valley and surrounding areas. This includes serving as mentors to community youth and high school students, as well as serving as mentors to undergraduate pre-medical students through the Minority Association of Pre-health Students (MAPS). Working with our sister organization, MAPS, gives us an opportunity to increase the number of minority medical students.

Minority Association of Pre-health Students (MAPS)

Dartmouth's SNMA Chapter is mainly for medical and graduate students who wish to make a unique contribution to the health and well-being of people of color and support minority medical students. BUT, fortunately Dartmouth also has a MAPS (Minority Association of Pre-Health Students) Chapter. MAPS provides support for current undergraduate students interested in pursuing a career in the health professions. Members receive advising and support for pre-medical issues and concerns, such as medical school application process, the medical college admissions test (MCAT), and access to undergraduate research and summer internships.
