Afro-American Society

The goal of the Afro-American Society is fourfold. We seek to maintain a political and social voice for communities of the African Diaspora at Dartmouth College; we dedicate ourselves to promote cultural, educational, and public awareness; we are committed to enhancing the relationship and understandings among all students, faculty, and staff, and Black Alumni of Dartmouth College; and we strive to unify the diverse members of the ever changing, ever expanding Dartmouth community.

Al-Nur

Al-Nur serves as the locus of the Muslim community at Dartmouth and in the surrounding area. We coordinate Islamic worship and holy day services, work to meet the spiritual, social, and educational needs of Muslims, and reach out to the non-Muslim community in a spirit of understanding, service, and cooperation.

American Medical Women's Association (AMWA)

AMWA is a DMS chapter of a national organization for women in medicine. AMWA sponsors numerous events throughout the year to raise awareness of women's health issues, and also provides networking and mentoring opportunities with women in medicine locally, regionally and nationally. Through its regional and national connections, AMWA also provides numerous resources and opportunities, including a nation-wide hosting program for residencies and job searches.

Asian Pacific American Medical Student Association (APAMSA)

Interest group for any student interested in Asian & Pacific Islander American patient populations and for medical students of the same background. Please see the list of student interest groups and blitz the contact names for more information.

Chinese Language Club

We serve as an open space for Chinese-speakers of all levels to meet and practice their Chinese. We have second-year students and fluent speakers: Come one, come all!

Christian Medical Association

We are a community of medical students, residents, and physicians that desire to encourage each other through times of fellowship, community service, prayer, and Bible study. This occurs in both small and large group settings and is largely coordinated by medical students.

Dartmouth Asian Organization

DAO is a political, social and cultural organization for students who are of Asian background or are interested in Asian cultures. The organization serves as a center for social and intellectual interaction between Asian-American and Asian students and works to promote the understanding and appreciation of all Asian cultures.

Dartmouth Chinese Culture Society

DCCS is a student-run organization that provides a social and intellectual venue for students and other members of the community who share an interest in Chinese language and culture. Events include movie and karaoke nights, professor-led discussions and celebration of Chinese New Year.

DJS is a student-run organization dedicated to the promotion of Japanese culture and language on campus. DJS is open to all interested members of the Dartmouth community.

DMS C.A.R.E.

DMS C.A.R.E. (Communities Assisting Relief Efforts) is intended to actively engage Dartmouth medical students in relief efforts across the globe, while simultaneously providing assistance and outreach to their own communities. Through CARE, students will raise funds, supplies and awareness for communities requiring assistance. They will also send groups of students to directly assist in outreach, relief, and rebuilding. Locally, CARE will address the needs of its own community in an effort to reflect the skills learned in disaster areas, and recognize that all communities have unmet needs.

Germania (the German Club)

Germania sponsors an ambitious program of events that include a regular lunch table, dinners, movie nights, an Oktoberfest, hikes, academic discussions, poetry readings and excursions. Part of last year's program was a trip to NYC to see "Spring Awakening" on Broadway.

Internal Medicine Interest Group

Internal Medicine Interest Group (IMIG) - ACP is the major sponsor for the program, but the official program name is IMIG. Description: The mission of the IMIG is to expose first- and second-year students to Internal Medicine and its various subspecialties. The DMS IMIG hopes to present Internal Medicine as a broad and dynamic field by including discussions with doctors involved in the various medical specialties and in various settings (rural and urban medicine, epidemiology, academics, private practice, hospitalist-based care, etc), by discussing current events in medicine, and by bringing together students with similar interests.

Italian Club

The Italian club seeks to fulfill these purposes:

1. To promote the knowledge and the appreciation of the Italian culture for all people who share an interest in it. This can be accomplished by holding events that allow individuals to learn and practice the customs of Italy.

2. The events can be focused around food, music, movies, and traditions that are common in Italy; these events also allow the members to appreciate the Italian culture and history.

3. In addition, the events unite those with a common interest in Italian life so that they may enhance their understanding of the country and the Italian people.

Any student who has taken a course through the Italian department is invited to attend our events. However, we always welcome non-Italian students who, for whatever reason, are interested in learning more about Italian culture and connecting with other students/faculty who share the same interest. The Calendar of the event will be posted on the French and Italian bulletin every quarter and the events will take place at the French and Italian suites, unless otherwise noted.

Korean American Students Association

KASA is a student-run organization that aims to meet the academic, social and cultural needs of Korean students. Although KASA's events are primarily focused on the Korean student community, all students are encouraged to participate in its activities and meetings.

La Alianza Latina

LAL is a student organization whose goal is to support and empower Latino students at Dartmouth through the advancement and promotion of Latino heritages and awareness of issues facing the community. Alianza addresses both campus and nationwide issues affecting the Latino community and is a strong sponsor of educational, cultural and social events. Send mail to HB 5063.

An incorporated, private, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization established in 1982, exists to bring men together in Brotherhood and to unite the Latino community.

Le Caf'e Francais is a French conversational coffee hour open to all. People at Dartmouth have a chance to join the residents of La Maison and professors from the Department of French and Italian in French conversation and refreshments.

Physicians for Human Rights (PHR)

Physicians for Human Rights promotes health by protecting human rights. We believe that human rights are essential preconditions for the health and well-being of all people. Using medical and scientific methods, we investigate and expose violations of human rights worldwide and we work to stop them. We support institutions that hold perpetrators of human rights abuses, including health professionals, accountable for their actions. We educate health professionals and medical, public health and nursing students and organize them to become active in supporting a movement for human rights and creating a culture of human rights in the medical and scientific professions.

Students for Africa

Students for Africa works to educate the Dartmouth campus about African affairs and encourage critical thought on Western portrayals of Africa and Africans. Each term, we organize lectures, dinner discussions, and retreats around different Africa-related issues.

Students of Hong Kong

SoHK is a student organization dedicated to strengthening the bonding among Dartmouth Hong Kong students, promoting Hong Kong culture to Dartmouth community, improving the connections between the Hong Kong community at Dartmouth and Hong Kong student organizations at other universities. We also aim to enhance the alumni network of the past Hong Kong students and promote Chinese and Asian cultures along with other Dartmouth organizations and faculty.

Student National Medical Association (SNMA)

SNMA is a DMS chapter of a national organization for medical students of color and allies, dedicated to national diversity issues and community service. SNMA sponsors a number of events and programs about diversity in the medical fields, and participates in both regional and national SNMA chapter meetings.

Ujima

Ujima is a student-run/student-coordinated dance troupe that focuses on expression through movement. The term Ujima is one of the seven Kwanzaa principles and means collective work and responsibility. The group operates with these tenets in mind. An organization of the Afro-American society, Ujima members include both professionally trained and untrained dancers. Its repertoire includes modern dance, jazz, African, hip-hop, stepping, and ballet as well as any other forms participants wish to introduce.
