ABOUT CLASS DAY 2007

What?

  • Dartmouth Medical School Class Day 2007

When?

  • 9:00 a.m. Saturday, June 9, 2007, rain or shine.

Where?

  • Mildred and Matthew Derzon Courtyard, front lawn of the medical school, rain or shine (under tent)

Who?

  • Keynote speaker: Benjamin Carson, M.D.

    Dr. Carson is a Professor of Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, Oncology, and Pediatrics at Johns Hopkins Medicine. He has been the Director of the Division of Pediatric Neurosurgery at Johns Hopkins since 1984, and also currently serves as Co-director of the Craniofacial Center at the Johns Hopkins Hospital.

    Dr. Carson's practice includes traumatic brain injuries, brain and spiral cord tumors, achondroplasia, neurological and congenital disorders, craniosynostosis, epilepsy, and trygeminal neuralgia. Dr. Carson is also an internationally recognized researcher, with over 98 neurosurgical publications. He has been awarded 24 honorary degrees and dozens of national citations of merit. He is the author of three best-selling books: "Gifted Hands," "Think Big," and "The Big Picture".

Wednesday, June 6

  • Students pick up regalia, 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM, Remsen student lounge
  • Medical student class activities to be announced.
  • First annual DMS Year 4 skits, "You're going to feel my fingers now." 8:00 PM, Kellogg Auditorium

Thursday, June 7

  • 11:00 AM: Medical student class composite Photo Session. Come dressed in full regalia, DMS Remsen Student Lounge
  • 1:30 PM: Faculty Farewell Remarks to MD Class of 2007 & humorous student awards, Kellogg Auditorium; families invited. Faculty speakers: Catlin Merrens, Goodney

Friday, June 8

  • 10:30 AM-11:30 AM: CECS & Graduate student Class Day Rehearsal, DMS front lawn
  • 11:30 AM-12:30 PM : Class Day Rehearsal on DMS front lawn, Medical Students only
  • 12:30 PM Dartmouth Commencement Rehearsal on Green, marshals only
  • 12:30-4:00 CECS Activities at Dartmouth Skiway
  • 4:00 PM DMS Medical Student Awards Program for medical students and their guests, Moore Theater, Hopkins Center
  • 5:30 PM Reception immediately following at the tent on the DMS front lawn.

Saturday, June 9

  • 8:00: AM All DMS Graduates (Medical, Graduate Students & CECS, Photo taken on lawn between Remsen and Dana.)
    Rain location - Chilcott Auditorium at 8:00am.
  • 8:30: AM: All participants line up behind Strasenburgh for processioinal. Rain location: bring umbrellas and students line up in Student Affairs wing; Faculty and administrators line up in Remsen hallway.
  • 9:00 AM Class Day and Awards Ceremony - Dartmouth Medical School front lawn, rain or shine (under tent)
  • Reception immediately following in the Tent on the DMS front lawn.

Sunday, June 10

  • 9:00 AM: MD students meet at corner of Main and Wentworth, in front of Sanborn House/Library; CECS and all DMS/A&S grad students meet at corner of College and Wentworth, in front of Rauner/Webster Library.
  • 9:30 AM: Commencement - Dartmouth Green, Rain or Shine. Participants MUST stay for the entire ceremony. We advise families and guests arrive before 9:00 a.m. for best seating. For seating information, visit Commencement Seating.

FACULTY

Academic Regalia Pick-up & Drop-Off

Faculty, if you have not yet ordered your regalia, please contact Brenda West immediately at 646-3749.

For those of you who ordered regalia through the Dartmouth Conferences and Special Events Office in the Blunt Alumni Center, Brenda West will e-mail you when your order has arrived. Please note that there is visitor parking outside of the Blunt facility. If the visitor lot is full, you are instructed to temporarily park adjacent to the entrance of the Blunt building, leave your four way flashers on, and go upstairs to Room 204 to get your regalia. We have been informed that the Parking Office is making this accommodation for DMS faculty. If you have any questions about your regalia order or have special pick-up needs, please contact Brenda West at 646-3749.

Regalia should be returned to Conferences and Special Events no later than June 18th in its original bag. For your convenience, Conferences and Special Events will be open on Saturday after Class Day until 2:00 p.m. and on Sunday after Commencement until 2:00 p.m.

Assembly & Marching Information for Faculty/Administrators

The 2007 Faculty Marshals will guide you through the graduation exercises on Saturday and Sunday, June 9 & 10.

The following general academic procession line-up instructions are for both the medical school front lawn, rain or shine.

Class Day: All participating faculty and administrators should assemble for the academic procession behind Strasenburgh Hall by 8:45 a.m. Line-up on the grass in a double line behind the faculty marshal(s) who will lead the faculty procession. Rain location: line up at 8:45 AM in a double line behind the faculty marshal(s) in Remsen hallway.

Commencement(Sunday): faculty line up in front of Hopkins Center or inside if raining.

Confirmation of Intention to March

Please e-mail or phone Victoria Smith (650-1582) by May 31 to confirm your intention to march in the academic procession. It is important for us to know the final headcount for marching to determine the number of chairs to set up on the faculty staging/section.

Listening devices including signing and special seating arrangements for guests with access issues are available for the Class Day and the Commencement Ceremonies.
