11th Annual World Conference on Tobacco OR Health
Uniting an estimated 4,500 professionals concerned about the global epidemic of diseases from tobacco use, the 11th World Conference on Tobacco OR Health took place August 6 - 11, 2000, in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The last conference was held in Beijing, China, in 1997.
The mission of the conference is to motivate and empower people involved in the tobacco control and pro-health movement to effectively support comprehensive global efforts aimed at reducing world tobacco use. To this end, the conference objectives include:
- Strengthening and expanding global leadership and increasing the number of organizations and individuals engaged in the fight against tobacco.
- Promoting ideas and strategies to create societal, political, and economic change that will help reduce tobacco use and exposure throughout the world.
- Promoting the importance and strengthening the understanding of tobacco policy changes and sharing strategies to promote such change.
