Sleep Medicine Fellowship
The Sleep Medicine Fellowship Program at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Sleep Disorders Center is a one-year fellowship accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
The fellowship has a focus on clinical sleep medicine but research activity is encouraged. Fellows participate in outpatient evaluations, inpatient consultations and polysomnographic assessment of a broad array of sleep disorders. The center emphasizes a multi-disciplinary approach to patients with sleep disorders.
The full-time faculty sleep specialists, all of whom are based in the Sleep Disorders Center, represent psychiatry, neurology and pulmonary medicine. Additional faculty consultants include otolaryngologists and behavioral medicine specialists. Fellows spend time working with these specialists in the course of the program.
In combination with the clinical training, fellows receive regular didactic instruction in normal sleep, sleep pathologies, and treatment issues from Sleep Medicine faculty and others. Opportunities to participate in the educational mission of the center through the instruction of medical students, residents, and community groups among others are made available to fellows. A clinical research project is strongly encouraged, with the goal of publication after completion of the fellowship.
This program is designed to prepare interested physicians to successfully complete the examination for board certification/added qualification in Sleep Medicine, which is granted by the candidate's primary ABMS board (ABIM/ABPN/ABP/ABO/ABFP).
