2010 - 2011 Training Opportunities
For the Training Year Beginning in July of 2010, the internship will offer three intern positions in three domains or tracks:
Child and Family Track: West Central Behavioral Health in Lebanon, New Hampshire
Administrative Supervisor: Michelle Parsons, Ph.D.
The intern in this position has a primary clinical placement at West Central Behavioral Health (WCBH) - a nonprofit, community-based mental health system serving individuals of all ages in the west central region of New Hampshire. WCBH provides a full range of services, including outpatient counseling, emergency services, recovery support, and residential care.
The intern will develop competence working as a key member of a multidisciplinary treatment team servicing a broad range of client populations. The Child and Family Outpatient track provides extensive training and supervision in the areas of individual and family therapy and in psychological assessment. Interns work with criminal justice, educational, and social service systems and have extensive opportunities to observe and work alongside professionals functioning as clinicians, administrators, and program developers. The child and family intern position involves significant opportunities to learn about trauma and its aftermath and to gain knowledge and experience in evidence-based practices for treating trauma in children such as Trauma Focused - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT).
Outpatient Adult Track: West Central Behavioral Health in Lebanon, New Hampshire
Administrative Supervisor: Robert Morrell, Ph.D.
The intern in this position has a primary clinical placement at West Central Behavioral Health (WCBH) - a nonprofit, community-based mental health system serving individuals of all ages in the west central region of New Hampshire. WCBH provides a full range of services, including outpatient counseling, emergency services, recovery support, and residential care.
The intern will develop competence working as a member of a multidisciplinary treatment team providing services to adult clients. Interns provide psychotherapy and psychological assessment services and have opportunities to work with EAP and managed care clients using short-term treatment models. Opportunities exist to receive training in evidence-based treatments of trauma and to work with older adolescents and adults with trauma-related disorders. Opportunities also exist to gain exposure and experience in behavioral medicine and integrative care models. Some couples counseling and family counseling opportunities exist. Participation as a co-therapist facilitating a Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) group is an option. Interns have extensive opportunities to observe and work alongside professionals functioning as clinicians, administrators, and program developers.
Neuropsychology Track: New Hampshire Hospital and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center
Administrative Supervisor: Laura Flashman, Ph.D.
Interns in this placement are offered exposure to inpatient psychiatry at New Hampshire Hospital (NHH) in Concord, NH. NHH treats approximately 1000 admissions annually, and provides acute stay, long-term, neuropsychiatric, and transitional housing services to children, adult, and geriatric populations. As members of a multidisciplinary treatment team, interns take psychotherapeutic, behavioral, or case management responsibilities on either a child or adult inpatient unit. They also participate in neuropsychological and diagnostic evaluation of inpatients, as well as group therapy, rehabilitation, crisis oriented family and marital intervention. Further, as part of the neuropsychology rotation, they conduct neuropsychological assessments with outpatients at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Specific neuropsychology didactics are offered in conjunction with the Neuropsychology Postdoctoral Residency Program, in addition to the other didactics available for all interns.
