Dartmouth Trauma Interventions Research Center
Details about members of the Psychiatric Research Center (PRC) and the range of topics they investigate are presented on the PRC's web page. Many members of DTIRC are also members of the PRC. The PRC's trauma-related research includes the following:
- Studies of the Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model (TREM) - this is a group intervention for women with serious mental illness who have a history of sexual and physical abuse. TREM uses a variety of active components within a group format to facilitate recovery from trauma through education, skill building, and personal growth. Gregory McHugo, PhD, Research Professor of Community and Family Medicine and of Psychiatry, has collaborated with the developers of TREM to evaluate its effectiveness in four studies.
- Studies of PTSD treatment in substance abuse treatment settings - Mark McGovern, PhD, Associate Professor of Psychiatry, has modified the CBT intervention for PTSD that was developed by Mueser and Rosenberg for use in primary substance abuse treatment settings. Pilot studies have been conducted and support is being sought for randomized controlled trials.
