The research strengths of the Department include Biochemical Pharmacology, Cancer and Carcinogenesis, Cell and Molecular Pharmacology, Experimental Therapeutics, Clinical Pharmacology, Genetic and Molecular Toxicology as well as Neuropharmacology and Molecular Cardiology. This research is supported by external grant funding of over $5,700,000 annually in direct costs. An NIH funded training program exists in Cancer Biology and there is an NIH designated Super Fund Program. The Department is currently expanding its graduate program. This graduate program offers a fostering academic environment while rigorously preparing students for an exciting biomedical career. There is a strong funding track-record for each faculty member as well as internal and external funding sources for graduate students. The 2006-2007 stipend rate is set at $23,750 and there are no teaching assistantship requirements. There are 14 additional faculty members with joint appointments in the department. They contribute to a vibrant graduate educational environment. The Dartmouth Medical School is also growing with the creation of a new Howard Hughes Foundation funded Department of Genetics and the recent recruitment of Dr. Mark Israel from the University of California at San Francisco as the Director for the Norris Cotton Cancer Center, an NCI-designated comprehensive cancer center. The overview is also available at Peterson's, part of the Thomson Corporation. |
