Faculty Research Non-Federal (NIH or DOD) Awards 2008 Ruth Craig, Ph.D., Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology, has been awarded a one year grant from the International Myeloma Foundation (01/01/09 - 12/31/10) entitled: Conversion of Antiapoptotic MCL1 to Death-Inducing Forms in Multiple Myeloma. Joyce DeLeo, Ph.D., Professor of Anesthesiology and of Pharmacology and Toxicology, has been appointed Chair of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Dartmouth Medical School. Dr. DeLeo was recently awarded the American Pain Society's Frederick W. L. Kerr Basic Science Research Award. The award recognizes individual excellence and achievements in pain scholarship and was appointed as the second Dartmouth representative for the Federal Demonstration Partnership, National Academy of Sciences. Ethan Dmitrovsky, M.D., Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology and of Medicine has been awarded a five year American Cancer Society Clinical Research Professorship (7/01/2008-6/30/13). His grant is entitled: Bidirectional Translational Research for Lung Cancer. Dr. Dmitrovsky has been awarded a two year contract with Cyclacel Limited (2/12/2008-1/11/10), entitled: Proof of Principle Seliciclib Studies in Transgenic Lung Cancer. Dr. Dmitrovsky has been awarded a two year contract with Merck & Co., Inc. (8/12/2008-8/11/10), entitled: Vorinostat for Lung Cancer. Dr. Dmitrovsky has also been awarded a one year Samuel Waxman Cancer Research Foundation grant (7/1/08 - 6/30/09), entitled: Rexinoid Therapy for Lung Cancer Prevention. Alan Eastman, Ph.D., Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology was appointed Treasurer of the Cancer Molecular Therapeutics Research Association. John Hwa, MB.BS., Ph.D., Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology has been awarded a five year grant from the American Heart Association (1/01/2008-12/31/12), entitled: Prostanoid Receptor Pharmacogenetics and Environmental Trace Metals. Karen Liby, PhD, Research Assistant Professor of Medicine, and Michael Sporn, MD, Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology and of Medicine, have been awarded a one year grant from The Breast Cancer Research Foundation (10/01/08-9/30/09), entitled: Chemoprevention of Experimental Estrogen-Receptor Negative Breast Cancer. David Robbins, PhD, Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology, has been awarded a one year Norris Cotton Cancer Center Development Award (12/01/08-11/30/09), entitled: Identifying Novel Therapeutic Targets of Lung Cancer. Dr. Robbins has also been awarded a one year grant from the American Lung Association (7/01/08-6/30/09), entitled: Uncovering Molecular Markers of Hedgehog Antagonist Sensitive Lung Cancer. Yolanda Sanchez, PhD, Associate Professor of Pharmacology and Toxicology, and Murray Korc, MD, Chair and Professor of Medicine and of Pharmacology and Toxicology, have been awarded a one year Norris Cotton Cancer Center Development Award (12/01/08-11/30/09), entitled: Checkpoint Pathways as Therapeutic Targets for Pancreatic Cancer. |
