- Lori Arviso Alvord, surgery, received an honorary degree at Pine Manor College's commencement ceremonies, May 10.
- E. Dale Collins, surgery and community & family medicine, becomes section chief of plastic surgery, succeeding Carolyn Kerrigan, who is stepping down, effective June 1.
- Ann-Christine Duhaime, surgery, was appointed to the editorial board of the Journal of Neurosurgery, Pediatrics.
- Juliette Madan, pediatrics, has won the Hitchcock Foundation's 2009 Joshua B. Burnett Clinical Research Fellowship to map the bacteria of the infant gut.
3. STUDENTS
- Samuel F. Bakhoum, biochemistry grad student, and Narath Carlile, med student, are the Class Day student speakers.
- Elissa M. Furutani, med student, was among 42 students chosen for the 2009 Howard Hughes Medical Institute-National Institutes of Health Research Scholars Program.
- Katrina Bogan, biochemistry grad student, scored a best poster prize at the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology 2009 Meeting, New Orleans, April 18-22, for her presentation, "Phosphate-regulated phosphatases Phm8 and Sdt1 are essential for chronological lifespan in budding yeast."
