2. FACULTY & STAFF
- Jay Dunlap, genetics and biochemistry, was elected to the National Academy of Sciences for distinguished and continuing achievements in original research during the Academy's annual meeting business session April 28.
- Patricia Lanter, medicine; Bruce Andrus, medicine; and Gina Andrales, surgery, received Dartmouth-Hitchcock trustee scholarships for the 2009-2010 TDI graduate program.
- Charles Mannix, dean's office, received the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences 2009 Barry Goldwater Service Award for valuable contributions to the USUHS Department of Surgery, presented each spring at Surgical Associates Day.
- Elmer Pfefferkorn, microbiology & immunology, was honored with the multi-authored book Toxoplasma gondii, the Model Apicomplexan dedicated to him for "...his intellectual rigor and deep thinking.... and profound insights into this pathogen."
- James N. Weinstein, orthopaedics, is the new Third Century Professor at DMS, succeeding Allan Munck, who becomes Emeritus Third Century Professor.
- James Whedon, TDI, received the Bernard Osher Foundation/NIH Complementary and Alternative Medicine Practitioner Research Career Development Award.
