2. FACULTY & STAFF
- Theresa Bryant, alumni relations, and Sue Ann Hennessy, student affairs, discussed the DMS Bridging Program, in sessions titled "Pre-Alumni Programming," Mar. 26, and Dana Grossman, publications, talked on Dartmouth Medicine magazine and trends toward e-publishing, Mar 27, during the AAMC-Group on Institutional Advancement conference in New Orleans.
- Elliott Fisher, medicine and community & family medicine, has been named director for population health and policy at TDI.
- David Goodman, pediatrics and community & family medicine, testified at a Senate Finance Committee hearing March 12 on healthcare workforce and health care reform; he has also been appointed director of the Center for Health Policy Research at TDI.
- William R. Green, DMS dean and microbiology & immunology, is the first Elmer R. Pfefferkorn, PhD, Professor in Microbiology and Immunology.
- C. Everett Koop, surgery, received Research America's 2009 Raymond and Beverly Sackler Award for Sustained National Leadership, presented March 24 in Washington, DC to honor his long-time commitment to public health advocacy.
- Nicholas W. Shworak, medicine, has been appointed director of the Heart and Vascular Research Center.
- William B. Weeks, psychiatry and community & family medicine, will receive the National Rural Health Association's 2009 Outstanding Researcher Award for his contributions to health care for rural veterans at the association's annual conference May 7 in Miami, Fla.
- John Wennberg, community & family medicine and medicine, was honored as a 2009 Public Health Hero for his leadership in cost reduction and efficacy improvements in US health care, by UC Berkeley School of Public Health in a ceremony March 18 in San Francisco.
- William Wickner, biochemistry, has been named to the NIH distinguished editorial panel on basic sciences that will evaluate and prioritize proposals for funding in response to the challenge grants available through the Recovery Act.
