- Charles Barlowe, biochem, is chair of biochemistry, effective July 1, coinciding with his ending term as Dartmouth College dean of graduate studies, and succeeding T.Y. Chang, who has elected to return to his research.
- Joyce DeLeo, anes and pharm/tox, becomes chair of pharmacology and toxicology, effective July 1, succeeding Ethan Dmitrovsky, who in accordance with his American Cancer Society professorship, is stepping aside to devote his time at DMS to his research and work for cancer.
- Elliott Fisher, med and c&fm, participated in the Senate Finance Committee's Health Reform Summit, "Prepare for Launch," in the session, "Approaches to 'Bending the Growth Curve' of Health Care Spending," June 16 in Washington, DC.
- William Green, dean and m&i, submitted congressional testimony as chair of the American Association of Immunologists Committee on Public Affairs, to boost the NIH fiscal year '09 budget; Download Testimony
- Robert Gougelet, med, made a presentation at the Institute of Medicine Forum on Medical and Public Health Preparedness for Catastrophic Events, May 20-21 in Washington, DC.
- Sean E. Hunt, anes, was awarded a master's in heath care management from Harvard U on June 5.
- Robert McLellan, med and c&fm, testified on workplace safety at the House Education and Labor Committee hearing June 19 on "Hidden Tragedy: Underreporting of Workplace Injuries and Illnesses," as immediate past president of American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine.
- Rosalind A. Stevens, surg, and her Helen Keller International team have been awarded support from the World Diabetes Foundation for their international ophthalmology project: "Diabetic Retinopathy in Jakarta: Educational, Training and Treatment, Indonesia."
- Gregory J. Tsongalis, path, was recently elected to the Council of the Pan American Society for Clinical Virology.
- H. Gilbert Welch, med and c&fm, received the Hitchcock Foundation's 2008-10 Helmut Schumann Fellowship awarded to senor clinicians involved in "healthful living" studies to work on a new book.

3. STUDENTS
- Matthew Reilley, med, was among 42 students named 2008 research scholars by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute-National Institutes of Health to spend a year doing hands-on biomedical research.
4. KUDOS
- The DMS Family Medicine Interest Group has been selected by the American Academy of Family Physicians as a Program of Excellence for the second year in a row.
- Dartmouth Medicine magazine won a 2008 Will Solimene Award from the New England American Medical Writers Association for a feature, "The Other Side of the Stethoscope," Spring 2007.
