- Marie Bakitas, anesth, received a two-year Junior Faculty Career Development Award from the National Palliative Care Research Center of New York City, one of six 2008 grants given to help improve quality of life and relieve suffering for seriously ill patients and their families.
- Charles Brenner, gen and biochem, has been named to the NIH International Cooperative 1 study section of the Center for Scientific Review, for a four-year term starting July 1, based on his scientific accomplishments and contributions; he is also the NCCC's associate director for basic sciences, succeeding Nancy Speck, biochem.
- Duane Compton, biochem, has been named director of the NCCC's cancer mechanisms program to succeed Charles Brenner.
- Ann-Christine Duhaime, surg, is chair-elect of the joint section on Pediatric Neurological Surgery of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, and takes office in April 2009.
- Larry Dumont, path, co-leader of the international Biomedical Excellence for Safer Transfusion (BEST) clinical studies team, presents the group's response to recent studies at the HHS meeting of the Advisory Committee on Blood Safety and Availability, May 30 in Rockville, MD.
- Gordon "Dino" Koff, formerly director of financial aid and admissions at Vermont Law School and president-elect of the Eastern Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators, has been appointed DMS director of financial aid, effective June 1.
- George A. Little, peds and ob/gyn, discussed high impact solutions for improving maternal health and reducing child mortality at the annual Global Health Council's International Conference, May 28 in Washington, DC.
- Kim Mueser, psych and c&fm, was a keynote speaker discussing trauma and PTSD among people with a co-occurring disorder at the Sixth Annual Behavioral Health Best Practices Conference, April 29-30 in Columbia, SC.
- Wendy Wells, path, has agreed to serve as the acting chair of pathology while a national search is conducted for a successor to James AuBuchon, who is leaving.
