Projects : Surge Capacity

A major component of the work done at NECEP is developing the ability of States, regions, and communities to deal with the medical surge associated with a disaster or large medical event. NECEP provides guidance to communities, Federal and State agencies, as well as works alongside community partners to build capacity, coordinate resources, and standardize regional planning goals. During an event that overwhelms a given community or State, interstate, intrastate, and regional agreements are critical to provide the necessary care to the public.

Currently, NECEP is working with Vermont and New Hampshire to develop and revise their state medical surge plans, and is working extensively with communities in Vermont to develop and exercise plans for Regional Med-Surge Mass Care Community Centers.

Dr. Gougelet serves as a co-leader of the USDHS Targeted Capability Group on medical surge capacity, and participates in multiple workshops, professional associations, and groups associated with medical surge.

Additional surge capacity guidance can be found on the NNE MMRS website.
