Info for Incoming Students

To assist in your preparations for graduate school this Fall, we have included below some links to resources you may find helpful. In April you will receive an email with information about orientation as well as basic information about the Hanover area, housing, banking, etc. Another email letter will be sent in August with more specific orientation dates and times. The orientation schedule will be included in the notebook which you will receive on the first day of orientation.
If you have questions or concerns during the summer, please contact Janet Cheney in the MCB Office.
Arrival on Campus
Orientation will begin on Monday, August 30, 2010. Incoming students should plan to be on campus by August 27 to allow time to settle in. If you are staying in a College rental unit, you should not arrive before your unit is ready for occupancy. The Housing Office will give you the occupancy date.
If you are planning to bring a vehicle to campus, please email Janet Cheney (see email address above) with the vehicle information so we can arrange for a temporary parking decal. During orientation you will receive a parking decal for one year which will allow you to park on both campuses (Lebanon and Hanover).
Finances
Bring sufficient funds to support yourself for one month until the first stipend check arrives. The stipend checks are sent on the first of every month.
Research Rotations and Vacations
During your first year in the Program you will be completing three research rotations during the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms. These rotations will help you determine the thesis lab you will join in June. The rotation dates are:
- 1st rotation: September 14 - November 25
- 2nd rotation: November 30 - March 5
- 3rd rotation: March 8 - May 28
You are required to be on campus during these rotations and we recommend that you do not schedule extended vacation before June 1, 2011.
Health Insurance for Students
All students are required to carry health and medical insurance. The College offers coverage for those not covered by other policies. You will receive a packet of information in the mail during the summer with enrollment forms. Please complete these forms and return as soon as possible. If you are covered by another policy and do not wish to enroll in the College's program, you will be required to complete and file a waiver form.
