Dr. Morganelli received his undergraduate degree from Clark University in 1979, a Master's degree from Miami of Ohio in 1983, and a Ph.D. from Dartmouth College in 1988. After post-doctoral work in the Department of Microbiology at Dartmouth Medical School, he joined the faculty in 1991.

Dr. Morganelli's laboratory is focused in general on the role of the immune system in the formation of atherosclerotic lesions, in particular the role of macrophage IgG Fc receptors. He is interested in understanding whether the metabolic uptake and processing of lipoprotein immune complexes is normally atherogenic or protective, and whether vaccine strategies are feasible for lowering the risk of heart disease in particular individuals. The approaches to these problems include functional studies of human mononuclear phagocytes in vitro and more recently the quantification of lesion formation in murine models.
