Biochemistry 112: Metabolism

This course emphasizes physiological and medical aspects of metabolism in eight sections: A, Cellular utilization of glucose in the presence of absence of mitochondrial oxidation. B, Fuel metabolism: the shift from glucose to fatty acids in diabetes and starvation. C, Energy balance, exercise and obesity. D, Lipoproteins and atherogenesis. E. Nitrogen balance, kwashiorkor and marasmus. F. Nucleotides, gout. G. Digestion and hepatic functions. H. Micronutrients: Iron and vitamins. The course is designed to fit with and complement other courses in the first and second year of DMS curriculum.
