Freddie H. Fu, M.D., D.Sc. (DC '74, DMS '75)

Freddie H. Fu is the David Silver Professor and chair of orthopaedic surgery at University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, where he is also head team physician for the University of Pittsburgh Department of Athletics. A sports medicine specialist interested in clinical outcomes as well as bioengineering, he is known worldwide for his surgical techniques to treat sports-related injuries to the knee and shoulder and his extensive scientific and clinical research in the biomechanics of such injuries. Editor of 26 major orthopaedic textbooks and author of 74 book chapters on the management of sports injuries, he has contributed to more than 177 international peer-reviewed research publications and garnered numerous professional and community awards.

Dr. Fu graduated from Dartmouth College in 1974 and received his bachelor of medical science from Dartmouth Medical School in 1975 before earning his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh in 1977. He completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery and a fellowship in orthopaedic research at Pittsburgh as well as a general surgery internship at Brown University and an international fellowship at the Hanover Trauma Center in Germany. Dr. Fu supports the Freddie H. Fu, M.D., DC '74, DMS'75 Outstanding Medical Student Award Endowment Fund in the Department of Orthopaedics.
