PATHOLOGY AND LABORATORY MEDICINE GRAND ROUNDS
Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center
“Building Academic Success upon Clinical Excellence: It Takes a Village”
Wendy A. Wells, MD, MSc, FRCPath
Professor and Chair, Emerita
Pathology and Laboratory Medicine
Dartmouth Hitchcock
Wednesday, March 13, 2024
4:30 PM
Auditorium F and Via WebEx
WebEx Info: TBD
Learning Outcome:
At the conclusion of this learning activity, participants will be able to:
1. Discuss new topics in general pathology and laboratory medicine, as well as molecular pathology and other advanced biomedical technologies.
Target Audience: Dept. Faculty, Residents, Fellows, and Medical Students.
Description
More than ever, financial constraints in the US Healthcare system limit the time, monetary support and infrastructure that clinicians need to build a successful academic career. This presentation will discuss how these barriers can be addressed through improved clinical efficiency, building a dedicated academic infrastructure, developing a compensation system that incentivizes academic success, and the value of annual “promotion-readiness” evaluations.
Bio
Wendy A. Wells is an Emeritus Professor of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Dartmouth’s Geisel School of Medicine. She is Board certified in Anatomic Pathology and Cytopathology, with sub-specialty training in breast pathology and computational image analysis. She has been a PI or co-Investigator on numerous NCI/NIH-funded projects since 1994 and has effectively collaborated with translational scientists across the Dartmouth campus in NIH-funded research programs for population breast screening, molecular epidemiology and biomedical imaging. She served as Department Chair of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at DHMC from 2011-2022 and has significant expertise in building a departmental infrastructure that recognizes and rewards clinical faculty in their pursuit of grant funding, excellence in medical education, academic promotion and a national/international presence.
Accreditation:
