The Health Careers Camp at Dartmouth provides rising 10th, 11th, and 12th grade students with opportunities to explore health careers, learn more about health care in today's world, experience college life and, of course, have fun.
Purpose
The primary purpose of the camp is to help students pursue their interest in a health career by exploring a wide range of career options while also learning about important issues and topics in health care today.
Who Should Come
A typical health careers camper has already expressed interest in the field of health care and wants to know more about the range of possible careers, day-to-day activities of various health professionals, and what to do next.
What Dartmouth Health Careers Summer Camp Offers You
Outstanding faculty: Faculty of the Dartmouth Health
Careers Camp include health care professionals from
Dartmouth Medical School, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical
Center, and the local community as well as medical
residents, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students.
Learning activities: Classroom instruction, hands-on experiences at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center and other medical settings, work with simulated patients, team projects, and time with a variety of health professionals
Mentors: Students and faculty in the health professions
Supervision: Resident camp director and counselors
Room and board: Dartmouth college dormitory and dining facilities
Recreational activities: Picnic at the pond, swimming, canoing, volleyball and more. Activities vary depending on weather. Alternative options are offered during each recreation period.
Follow up: Letters of recommendation, "where are you now" surveys
Application Procedures, Timeline and Tuition Information
Application Procedures:
Prospective campers may apply online. AHEC Staff will review applications, and notify prospective campers of acceptance. Accepted applicants will be directed to complete and mail a set of secondary materials, and must include a $50 deposit. If you are accepted, you will be asked to submit additional materials and the remaining tuition.
Application Timeline:
Applications due: March 27, 2009
Recommendations due: April 30, 2009
Secondary materials (including deposit) due: May 1, 2009
Balance of tuition due: June 12, 2009
Tuition:
Given the current economy, we are keeping tuition rates for this camp at last year's level. Rates are as follows:
- New Hampshire residents and other students attending New Hampshire high schools: $300. Scholarships are available for New Hampshire residents.
- Vermont and Maine residents: $500
- All others: $1,500
Please note that deposits will be returned if an applicant withdraws before June 12. After that date, applicants who withdraw will be refunded 50% of tuition paid.
