About Us

The Bridging Program was established to provide medical students the opportunity to benefit from our alumni life experiences.

A letter from William R. Green, Ph.D., Dean, Dartmouth Medical School

The DMS Bridging Program was born out of both need and opportunity. Our medical students, eager for greater connection with the former graduates of Dartmouth Medical School, mentioned this request in their comments during the last LCME re-accreditation study of the medical school.

Former DMS Dean, Stephen Spielberg, who was an ardent advocate for students and keenly aware of the value that alumni contact brings to both the students' experience and to the betterment of their alma mater fully endorsed and gave the initial backing for a formal relationship between these two offices, Alumni Relations and Student Affairs. Now, in my current role as Dean of DMS, I am pleased to reaffirm the ongoing support and encouragement for the Bridging Program.

As I meet with alumni here on campus, and in venues around the country, I am continually impressed by the high level of interest our former graduates have in the welfare of our current students. Alumni ask about curriculum and the training being offered, and the medical specialties that our graduating students now choose. They also want to know about lifestyle issues: how do students today create a sense of balance in their professional and personal lives? The hope

of our alumni is that DMS is still a community in which its members can be prepared to succeed as professionals but also thrive as individuals.

The Bridging Program provides opportunities for alumni to not only enrich the educational experience but also influence the health of the community. Alumni volunteers are a very important component as we strive to achieve our mission and vision. I encourage alumni to consider how they can get involved—when they can.

Thanks in advance for our students and for DMS.
