Summer Undergraduate Program

MCB Summer Research
Participants in the Summer Research in Molecular and Cellular Biology program become members of the laboratory groups of the faculty they select. They work not only one-on-one with the faculty member, but also with postdoctoral research associates and fellows and with graduate students currently enrolled in the Molecular and Cellular Biology Graduate Program. These interactions form the basis of career collaborations that will continue long after the nine-week program has ended. Participants are encouraged to apply to the MCB Graduate Program at Dartmouth when they enter their senior year of undergraduate study.

The Biochemistry Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF)

The Biochemistry Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship is accepting applications under a combined process with other departments in the Molecular & Cellular Biology program. SURF awards are supported by a variety of sources, including NIH, NSF, The Leadership Alliance, and the E.E. Just Foundation, as well as department funds. Applicants for SURF awards must be US citizens or permanent residents. Some sources require minority status, and others prefer to support students currently studying in schools where comparable research opportunities are unavailable. We do our best to match fellows with the appropriate funding sources.

For a downloadable SURF application form and additional information about funding sources and research projects available, go to http://www.dartmouth.edu/~surf/

Students who are seeking summer research opportunities but who do not qualify for SURF because of their citizenship are welcome to submit an application. While the application will not be considered for the SURF program, we would be willing to circulate it among the faculty of the program in case one or more of them have other sources of support that do not require US citizenship or permanent resident status. There are no guarantees of offers, but sometimes very successful arrangements are made for these individual internships.
