Mentoring/Teaching Consultation
Academy members are available for confidential one-on-one mentoring at a faculty member's request. Mentoring services are offered for a variety of teaching activities including:
- Lecture and laboratory teaching
- Facilitating small group discussions
- Bedside teaching/teaching during rounds
- Incorporating interactive activities into your teaching (e.g. audience response)
- Course planning and organization
- Drafting syllabi or course objectives
- Becoming a new course/clerkship director
- Mentoring students
- Drafting assessments (e.g. NBME-style questions)
- Creating new teaching materials (e.g. websites, iBooks, etc.)
There is no formal structure for a mentoring session. GAME members will work with individual faculty to design consultation rooted in the faculty's need. For example, a teaching evaluation might involve the Academy member attending a specific teaching activity (e.g. a lecture, rounds, etc.), followed by a private meeting with the faculty member to provide feedback. Alternatively, the Academy member could review sessions retrospectively on Blackboard using the Echo 360 learning platform. We encourage faculty struggling with specific or general teaching issues to contact us and let us work with you to find the best match for your teaching needs and our skills.
If you have questions about this program, please contact Alison Ricker in the Office of Faculty Development. To participate you may contact Academy members directly, or consult Alison to assist you.
