Important Policies Regarding Registration For Year 3 and 4 Courses

YEAR 3/4 CLERKSHIPS
Registration is completed through the Lottery and confirmed by the Office of Clinical Education. Requests for changes to a clerkship must be submitted to, and approved by, both the Office of Clinical Education and the involved clerkship(s). If approved, changes are made to your schedule by the staff of the Office of Clinical Education and transmitted to the Registrar.

ELECTIVES AND SUBINTERNSHIPS
Timely registration for electives and subinternships both away and at DHMC is vitally important. If you are not properly registered, you may not be covered by liability insurance during the time you are on the rotation. If there is an emergency, DMS will not be able to locate you, and no evaluation will be sent to your site on your behalf. Timely and complete registration for your rotations reflects on your professionalism as a medical student. Please consider the serious implications of not completing your registration.

MINIMUM OF FOUR WEEKS PRIOR TO THE START DATE OF THE ELECTIVE OR THE SUBINTERNSHIP
Submit all paperwork pertaining to the rotation. The exact paperwork requirements are detailed on the Elective instruction sheet you receive at the Year 4 meeting during I.C.E. Instruction sheets are available at the Office of the Registrar.

Failure to submit the paperwork a minimum of four weeks prior to the start of the rotation will result in a fifty dollar ($50.00) fine. In the case of extenuating circumstances that are felt to be important, unavoidable, and persuasive, the Assistant Registrar is authorized to waive this fine.

Starting a rotation, either away or at DHMC prior to completing all of the required paperwork will result in a fine of one hundred dollars ($100.00).

Completing an elective or a subinternship without having completed and approved paperwork on file with the Office of the Registrar will result in a fine of two hundred dollars ($200.00) if retroactive credit is requested. In this situation, final approval of retroactive award of credit will be made by the Assistant Dean for Clinical Education.
